Amritsar International Airport
is also known as Raja Sansi International Airport after the founder of Amristar City
Guru Ram Das, indeed it is also refrred to as Guru Das Airport. The airport is 11 kilometres north west of Amritsar City and the main airport serving the state of Punjab.
The airport currently provides about 90 flights a week to a mix of domestic and international destinations. Nine international airlines fly from the airport including flights to London Heathrow, Toronto, Dubai,Tehran, Inman, Khomeni, Ashgabat and Tashbent.
In all there are 47 destinations flying to 24 coutries that has helped it reach International airport status although the airport primarily provides internal flights.
Air India is the dominant airline providing over 70% of all flights with several flights a day to Dehli.
Both the arrivals and depature terminals have recently been refurbished and is one of India's fastest growing airports.
India is a major world exporter and a brand new cargo facility has been built to meet this growing demand along with an extension to the runway so that larger aircraft can use the airport.
The State of Punjab has modern and well linked motorways and car and taxi is the best method of transport to the airport. Public transport whilst improving needs to have better links to the major towns in the state.
